Our perioperative program is designed to give you a range of clinical experiences within the perioperative environment. It includes rotations in the scrub/ scout role, anaesthetics, and the post anaesthetic care units (PACU). Our dedicated and skilled perioperative teams will support you to provide excellent clinical care at all stages of the perioperative journey, from pre-surgery, in theatre and post-surgery.

You will have the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of surgical specialties such as:

  • Cardiothoracics
  • Acute surgical care
  • Emergency surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Paediatrics

Our mental health graduate nurse program is designed to expose you to a range of clinical experiences within the mental health setting. Our dedicated and skilled interdisciplinary mental health teams will support you to become a mental health nurse equipped to help vulnerable clients and patients on their journey to recovery, by focusing not only on their psychological wellbeing, but also their physical and spiritual wellbeing.

You will have the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of mental health services such as:

  • Inpatient mental health
  • Drug and alcohol services
  • Perinatal mental health
  • Psychiatric outpatient programs

  • Registered midwives

 

Our graduate midwife program is designed to give you a variety of experiences as a graduate midwife within a supported, nurturing and rewarding environment. Our program supports graduate midwives to provide high quality care in all aspects of pregnancy, birth and postnatal care on our maternity wards, our birth suites, our antenatal clinic and services, in addition to caring for our babies in our special care nurseries. For dual registered graduates, opportunities exist to rotate across general wards to consolidate your nursing qualification in addition to your midwifery.

Recruitment process

Register your interest to be notified via email about key dates for applications and recruitment. 

We offer roles across registered nursing, enrolled nursing and registered midwifery in most of our hospitals in Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales.

When applications open, we will list our current opportunities on our careers portal.

To apply for a role, you will need to create an account (if you don't have one already) and submit your application online via our careers portal*. This process requires you to confirm your personal details, nominate your preferred hospital and attach supporting documents, including:

  • resume
  • cover letter
  • statement addressing the selection criteria
  • evidence of citizenship/ residency status
  • academic transcript
  • clinical placement report
  • COVID-19 vaccination records**

The selection process may include a video interview and/or a face-to-face interview.

*Please note that graduate program applicants for our Western Australian hospitals need to apply via GradConnect.

**All caregivers employed by St John of God Health Care are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to fulfil the requirements of the role.

Once applications have closed, the hiring manager will review your application against the selection criteria for our graduate programs.

If you are shortlisted, our team will contact you. You will also be notified if you are not successful.

If you are shortlisted, you’ll be asked by our team to complete an automated interview.

We’ll let you know how to best prepare for your interviews and what to expect.

If you are successful in progressing to the next stage of our recruitment process, our team will seek your permission to contact at least two of your professional referees.

At St John of God Health Care, we put our patients and clients at the centre of our care and want every caregiver to have the same commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone who walks through our doors. 

With this in mind, there may be some pre-employment documents to submit, however, we will advise you if and what documents we need. 

Once we have contacted your referees and we have received your pre-employment documents, we will get in touch to formally offer you the role. This will include

    • Keep your cover letter to one page.
    • Explain why you are interested in joining St John of God Health Care.
    • Provide examples of how your behaviours align to the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Resume/CV
    • Education history, including completed and in progress qualifications.
    • Placement experiences including skills demonstrated and achievements linked to the Standards for Practice .
    • Employment history outlining relevant jobs, skills and achievements.
    • Professional development, including relevant certifications.
    • Extracurricular activities and or volunteering experiences.
  • Interviews
    • Be yourself, the interview panel is curious to know why you want to join our team.
    • Consider what you wear as a first impression.
    • Be on time.
    • Allow time for parking.
    • Know who is interviewing you.
    • Video interviews:
      • Be comfortable speaking and looking to your webcam as video interview is likely the next stage of selection.
      • Tell people you are completing a video interview and not to interrupt.
      • Consider your background and what is in view of the camera.
