Street Retreat from Edmund Rice schools visits St John of God Halswell

This week we welcomed students from around New Zealand as part of the Street Retreat for Year 12 students.
Students in the programme come from five Edmund Rice Schools including Liston and St Peter’s in Auckland, Kavanagh College in Dunedin, St Kevin’s in Oamaru and St Thomas’s of Canterbury in Christchurch.

The programme is aimed at students emerging as leaders for Year 13, helping them to step into other worlds beyond their realm, to make connections, to listen to stories and challenge established biases and prejudices. It is an invitation to step out of their comfort zone and to meet and to hear the stories of others on this human experience. Along with spending time at St John of God Halswell meeting our residents, their experience traverses sleep rough, visiting the City Mission and working with the Salvation Army.

The core values of Edmund Rice are compassion, presence, liberation and justice. This programme helps students orientate the way they interpret their life with school, community, nation and world.

St John of God Halswell is a 54-bed specialist service providing residential and respite support to adults living with physical and/or neurological impairments between the ages of 16 and 65.
