Pampuri House provides transitional support for people living with disabilities

Today marks the opening of St John of God Hauora Trust's new transitional living facility Pampuri House.
Our new unit receiving blessing from Fr Rick Loughnan, Administrator of the Diocese of Christchurch, and will provide another option for people living with a disability in their journey towards an independent and self-directed life.

Virginia Spoors, Southern Regional Manager of the Trust's Health and Ability Services Division said that Pampuri House will be a place where residents manage daily routines as they prepare to meet the challenge of thriving in a home environment outside of a residential care facility.

The six-bed facility will provide a transitional living service for residents while allowing access to the leading neurological rehabilitation services at The Granada Centre.

A painting of the facility's name sake Saint Pampuri was also hung on the walls of the unit to provide a reminder of his legacy in serving people in need. The painting was produced in 1996 by the late Australian Brother Fabian Hynes, who was Pharmacist at the Vatican Pharmacy for 50 years. Misplaced for over a decade, this painting will be reinstated in Pampuri House to serve as reminder of his dedication and work.

As with all of our services, the common thread in this new service is people and the shared values they bring to work each day. Our Community Homes team look forward to welcoming new residents in coming weeks to their new home.
