The people who make our Mission come to life.
I grew up on a country where we don’t have this kind of social or health services for people living with disability, in order for them to have a meaningful life.
But when I’m here (St John of God Karori) we see that we can open people’s world up to new possibilities. We had one resident who was home-bound for most of his life and when moving here asking them ‘what do you want to do?’ ‘what are your goals?’ and this kind of thinking really puzzled them. So the opportunity to open up a person’s world in this way makes me feel good to support them to extend beyond the ordinary constraints of their condition.
Now we’re striving more and more for people and continually extending quality of life and that is now our challenge.
