Welcome Fr Frank Kelly as Priest Chaplain to St John of God Halswell

On Tuesday 8 May residents, caregivers and friends gathered for Eucharist to celebrate the appointment of Fr Frank Kelly as Priest Chaplain to St John of God Halswell.

St John of God Halswell Pastoral Coordinator Glenys Webster welcomed Fr Frank to St John of God Halswell, saying that he has made himself part of the St John of God family with his sense of humour, genuine care for our residents and in celebrating liturgy which is inclusive, healing and good news for whoever takes part.

She said Fr Frank's appointment would support the spiritual and sacramental needs of Catholic residents.

"The presence of the Catholic Chaplain, alongside pastoral volunteers, ministers of Eucharist and visits from ministers and parishioners of other denominations help create a sense of an inclusive Church for people who find access to parish life difficult," she said.

St John of God Halswell offers resident support for people living with physical or neurological impairments.

Glenys said having priests on hand to celebrate mass with residents and their family members was particularly important.

"For many years Fr John Noonan regularly celebrated mass at St John of God Halswell and Fr Frank and Fr Anton McLean have continued in his footsteps," she said.

"We are very grateful to the priests of the diocese who have extended their ministry to include people living with a disability, and we welcome Fr Frank into this special chaplaincy."
