Mana Ake Report finds $13 in social value for each dollar invested

Impact Lab worked alongside government agencies to measure the impact of the Mana Ake Programme. St John of God Waipuna is engaged with Mana Ake as an implementation partner NGO employing the front line kaimahi.

Mana Ake works with all children in years 0-8 at Canterbury schools. The GoodMeasure report of ManaAke calculated those receiving face-to-face and group support totalling 5500 children. Mana Ake’s real-world impact is much greater, as the initiative touches the lives of all 52, 000 primary aged children in Canterbury. The outcomes that directly contributed to this inaugural social value calculation included:

  • Improved mental health
  • Improved educational achievement
  • Improved physical health
  • Reduced addiction
  • Reduced mental health incidents.

These factors of direct and avoided costs combined to a total of $117,075,157 of social value. That represented a total of $23,652 in value generated per participant against a cost of $1,598.

Overall that meant that from this initial research, that every $1 invested in Mana Ake results in $13.32 returned to NZ. See The Good Measure Report to see the full results and analysis.
