Community Action Youth and Drugs Team success in community advocacy on liquor licensing
Our Community Action Youth and Drugs (CAYAD) Team, led by Senior Project Worker Paul McMahon, has had recent success in facilitating community advocacy relating to the sale of alcohol.
The Christchurch City Council recently advised that an applicant will not be proceeding in their licensing application for a store in Wainoni. Separately the CAYAD Team has opposed an application by the Yankee Bourbon Company bottle shop on Ferry Rd in Linwood.
Both of these objections and the coordination and collaboration that surround them represent a substantial body of work from our CAYAD team. The CAYAD Team's advocacy is having a positive impact in reducing the availability and associated harms of alcohol, in some of Christchurch's most deprived communities.
Please read and share Paul's interview about the CAYAD Team's work in this recent article on Stuff.
