All our volunteers are provided with an orientation program that is specific to their volunteering role.

Activities Assistant - St John of God Halswell

This residential and respite support service provides a wide-ranging activity program for its adult residents between 10.30am to 12.30pm, Monday to Friday. Activities include arts and crafts, gardening, games, tai chi, cooking, meditation, housie, indoor bowls, church services and performances from entertainers. We’re always keen to ensure everyone enjoys the activities and has a great time socialising.

We are looking for a volunteer to assist with activity program at St John of God Halswell. In return, you would be welcomed by a fun-loving community grateful for your help.

Letter Writer & Chatter - St John of God Addington

Our community home in Addington is seeking volunteers to help a resident with sewing and letter writing/posting. This would also involve providing social support through friendship and conversation.

To be well-suited to volunteering with us, you would have strong empathy for people with disabilities, good communication skills, a sense of humour and caring, pleasant manner. We also need someone with the skills to write and address letters and sew/or mend clothing.

Community Activity Champion - St John of God Rolleston

Our community home in Rolleston is looking for volunteers who would be interested in supporting a person with a disability to engage in activities at home or in the community.

Kiwi Culinary Whiz - St John of God Halswell

One of our Maori residents would like assistance in the kitchen from a person of culinary like-mind, in order to cook things like a Boil-Up. All food and utensils will be provided in our therapy kitchen.

Gardening Green Thumb - St John of God Halswell

Residents at St John of God Halswell would love someone with green thumbs and gardening knowledge to be able to assist them in the garden. Strawberries need maintenance and there is room for more plant varieties. Ideally, it would be great to have someone who is also keen to talk with others and enjoy making conversation.
